Why do you want to serve on the BSA Board of Directors?
Now that I am retired, I would like to expand my involvement in community activities (such as nonprofits and volunteer opportunities) that serve the community. I am interested in the issue of the role of seniors in our society and community. I am excited by the opportunity to work with this board, based on what I have heard of your improvements and activities.
I have over 38 years of experience in state and federal government, the vast majority of which were in senior executive leadership. This involved managing large budgets, personnel and operations as well as strategic planning.
I also served for approximately 30 years, or supported, numerous non-profit organizations; including serving for over 12 years on a Family Foundation that supports non-profit organizations in the areas of the “Rescue of Youth” and medical training and advances.

Example of a new idea to raise money, increase membership or help the center grow
It seems to me that in the 12 years I was away from the area, the Senior Center and focus on community achieved by this board, have made great strides in creating partnerships, showcasing the center and hosting activities.
I would like to better understand the needs and goals of the board in order to propose specific ideas; however, I would propose a continuation of hosting events at the center, engaging in partnerships with non-profit organizations and government entities, including to leverage grant writing resources, that would generate funding for the center.
It would also be important to have a community-advised, board created strategic plan to focus our efforts and tie the goals to a budget.
Creating opportunities to keep seniors engaged in the community and vice-versa is critical for the marketing of the center, expanding awareness and partnerships. Additionally, it is good for seniors and the extended community family: mental, physical and spiritual health.
